In a move to reduce traffic congestion near Loyola College on Sterling Road, the Thousand Lights MLA Ku. Ka. Selvam, has given a representation to the Loyola College Society authorities to sanction a portion of land that belongs to the campus to build an additional route on the western side of the Nungambakkam subway.
“We are planning to construct a bridge connecting the compound wall of the college to the graveyard which lies on the opposite side. This way, there will be easy movement of traffic,” said a representative of the MLA’s office. “We have acquired 10 feet of land from the graveyard and want 10 feet more from the college premises,” he said. In his representation, the MLA mentioned that there was a pressing need to implement this project and it would help address many issues raised by the public and the students.
Accident-prone stretch
“Each time a local train halts at the station and the passengers come out, the entire stretch of the road becomes traffic-clogged, leading to accidents. We hope the respective authorities will look into the matter so that we can execute the project,” said the representative.
Authorities from Loyola College Society could not be reached for comments.
