To mark the birth centenary of Mathuram Bhoothalingam, better known as Krithika, Tamil scholars and authors gathered at Raja Muthaiah Library in the city. The meeting was aimed at discussing the writer’s works and learning a little more about the author of the novels Vaasaveswaram and Puhai Naduvil.
According to author K.R.A. Narasiah, Krithika’s works came at a time when many women were not writing political stories.
Speaking of the criticism she received for her books, Mr. Narasiah went on to say that often critics looked at the gender of the author, then the caste, and only then did they take into consideration the work itself.
A.S. Panneerselvan, Reader’s Editor, The Hindu , writers Indira Parthasarathy, A. Mangai, Perunthevi and Nirmala, and Mina Swaminathan, scholar and daughter of Ms. Bhoothalingam, spoke at the commemoration function.
