The Chennai Division of Southern Railway on Friday felicitated 60 retired railway employees who had served as station masters, loco pilots, shunting masters and points-men as a mark of honouring their “accident-free service.”

S. Anantharaman, Chennai Divisional Railway Manager, distributed cash awards to them whose work often involved ensuring safety of train operations.

John Thomas, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, and other senior officials participated.

The scheme of rewarding retired railway employees who have rendered accident-free service was introduced by the Railways to encourage and recognise the services of railway employees engaged in safety of train operations. Cash awards to the extent of Rs.60,000, depending on the length of service in safety categories, are sanctioned to the retired employees.
