A host of music and dance performances marked The Shakti Foundation’s annual children’s day Fun Fair at the Music Academy on Saturday morning.
Children from 17 special schools which included Rasa, Andhra Mahila Sabha, Sunshine School for Autistic Children and Bala Vihar and as well as students from other city schools participated by putting up performances to a packed and enthusiastic audience.
Vasant Raghuvir, chairman, The Shakti Foundation, said that while the annual day was initially celebrated to coincide with World Disability day, they decided to host the event on a separate day to motivate the children.
“There is so much of talent that we had to give these children a platform to express themselves. By involving children from other schools in the city as well, we are promoting inclusiveness and integration which we hope will aid them in expressing their talent in the best possible way,” she said.
Ms. Vasant further stressed on the importance of encouraging children in special schools to pursue such art forms as a part of their co-curricular activities. “This is a great stimulus to any kind of disability and while it gives them a challenge to perform, it also shows them that they can overcome anything and have more belief in themselves,” she added.
Chief guest Sunil Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (Crime), who inaugurated the event, congratulated the participating students.
