To prevent dengue, health education activities have to be intensified in all the affected areas as well as potential areas to spread awareness about the disease at the community level. There is a need for the civic body to take suitable steps for prevention of breeding of mosquitoes in and around houses.

There is a need to carry out advocacy sessions involving community leaders, volunteers, social workers and NGOs to create awareness about the transmission of these diseases. Measures need to be taken to prevent stagnation of water as they serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The vulnerable areas are cement tanks, barrels, drums, earthern pots, plastic cups, plates, tyres, trays in flower pots. Control of dengue needs to be taken up on a war footing by involving the community through proper education, by the health authorities. Removing stagnant water near all houses, both inside and outside. Spraying and fogging have to be carried out in all the affected areas at weekly intervals to get rid of adult infected mosquitoes. Priority has to be given to the areas with high risk transmission with high aedes breeding potential.
