The Central Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested batsman Nishanth Singh Shekhawat in connection with the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) match fixing case. He last featured in a KPL match in 2018 for Shivamogga Lions.

According to the police, Shekhawat was the link between bookies and Vinu Prasad, a Bengaluru Blasters bowling coach who was arrested in October along with batsman Vishwanath, who was formerly with the same team.

“Shekhawat would take money from bookies and pass it on to Prasad, who would then instruct other players how to play and pay them accordingly,” said a senior police officer. Prasad had allegedly instructed Vishwanath to bat slowly, and paid him ₹5 lakh.

“Shekhawat’s name came up after we arrested Prasad. We are questioning him to ascertain whether more players are involved,” the police officer added.

So far, the CCB has registered two cases and arrested four persons. They are on the lookout for a bookie who has fled the country.
