Ashwin Rao, son of Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao, who is the suspected kingpin in the alleged corruption case against the Lokayukta office, was taken into nine days custody after being produced before the special court on Tuesday.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Labhu Ram requested the court to grant 14 days of custody, but the court granted custody only for nine days.
On being questioned by the Magistrate, Ashwin gave details of his arrest stating that he was picked up from his residential apartment from Kukatpally on Monday and brought to the city in the wee hours after following the required procedure.
SIT officials, who have taken Ashwin back to the CID headquarters, are planning on a detailed investigation including analysis of his laptop and mobile phones seized during arrest.
A senior police officer said that the investigation is based on the digital footprints left by the accused and the investigations are on to ascertain who are all in touch with Ashwin and how many officials had he demanded for money.
Many teams have been formed within the SIT and every team is questioning the accused arrested so far to cross-examine the information.
Meanwhile, another team of officials are on a massive manhunt for Bhaskar, an RTI activist and part of the syndicate, who is presently on the run. According to the police, Bhaskar provided logistic help to Ashwin in Bengaluru and would work as the courier person. His arrest may throw light on the modus operandi of the operations and help gather credible evidence in the case, sources said.
