A high alert was sounded in the city on Friday with three units of the City Armed Reserves deployed across all eight police divisions. Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, in a memo, instructed ACPs and DCPs to “sensitise high alert at all iconic installations like Vidhana Soudha, Vikas Soudha, High Court…”.

He directed senior officers to provide foolproof security to key installations as well as intensify security at public places and installations, such as railway stations, bus stands and malls. Jurisdictional police officers have been told to ensure that CCTVs are functioning and have checkpoints in sensitive areas to watch out for vehicles moving in a suspicious manner.

“There should be a high level police presence and visibility at the jurisdictional level until further orders,” Mr. Rao said.

He instructed personnel to check paying guest accommodation, service apartments and accommodations near religious places. As part of the SOP, officials on duty have been directed to verify the antecedents of suspicious elements and seize unattended bags and vehicles.

The commissioner termed this as as a ‘general alert’ and not a reaction to any specific threat.
