Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was shocked and condemned the murder saying no person with any humanity would carry out such an act. “I have known Gauri Lankesh from a very young age and she was a staunch believer of secularism. She was an active social activist against communalism and minced no words,” he said.

“There was no intelligence input on the possibility of an attack on her. She has met me multiple times and never told me about any threat, neither to the police, so she had no security,” he said.

When quizzed about the Kalburgi murder, he said it was unfortunate that despite best efforts, the killers are yet to be nabbed. “We have some leads. CBI, which is probing the murder of Narendra Dhabolkar in Maharashtra, has also not made any headway,” he said.
