The Union government on Friday approved assistance of Rs. 723.23 crore for Karnataka, which has been affected by drought.
The decision to provide assistance was taken at a high-level committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The committee examined the proposals based on the report of the Central team which visited Karnataka.
Earlier, the Centre had granted Rs. 1,450 crore to the State for undertaking relief measures in drought- and flood-affected areas.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra told presspersons here on Friday that a delegation would be taken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him about the drought situation in Karnataka and to seek a special package for the State to tackle drought.
A memorandum would be submitted to the Centre based on field reports given by four committees formed by the State to study the drought, he said.
Committees would submit the reports to the government by April-end.
