Take in the sights at your convenience

May 23, 2014 11:37 pm | Updated December 16, 2016 03:01 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will start a Hop On, Hop Off (HOHO) bus service that people can use to take in the sights of the city. According to Kumar Pushkar, Director, Information Technology, BMTC, said the new service — ‘Bengaluru Rounds' — will consist of seven luxury buses that people can take at their convenience. This would allow them to spend more time at a particular place of interest and take the next bus, which will arrive every half hour.

There will be no need to to rush back to catch the bus at every place. The service will start once the minister concerned gives the nod.

The buses will be operated from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. and will visit 23 places of historical, religious and tourist interest (such as Lalbagh, Vidhana Soudha) in addition to malls.

Tickets will cost Rs. 250 for adults and Rs. 200 for children (free for children aged below five). Ticket-holders may travel on any BMTC bus (except Vayu Vajras) for the day (including to the nearest point where the HOHO bus will stop). Conductors will double as guides and will inform the passengers about places of interest through an in-bus voice system. Nearly 35 select personnel (two drivers, two conductors plus seven spare staff), will operate the buses.
