KCDC asked to work in three shifts

The High Court on Monday directed the Karnataka Compost Development Corporation (KCDC) to work in three shifts of eight hours each to process 1.65 lakh tonnes of garbage dumped on its premises for past many years. This arrangement should be made by recruiting additional labour at least till a new plant is established on the land adjacent to it.

The court directed the City Police Commissioner to provide protection to the plant in the event of protest by residents. The court made it clear that it is the people who constructed houses over the years near the plant, which exists since 1975, and hence they [residents] cannot prevent the plant from functioning as it process garbage. However, the court asked the KCDC to initiate appropriate steps so that plant in no way affects the residents.
