Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju has urged the students to grab the opportunity that knocks at their door and they should be adept at recognising the opportunity. He was speaking a seminar at Dr. L. Bullayya College here on Tuesday held on the occasion of United Nations International Youth Day.

“No one is born intelligent. He or she becomes brilliant by using the power of thinking,” Prof. Raju said.

He urged both the participants and the faculty members present at the seminar to improve their domain knowledge, time management and communication skills. “Youth should contribute to the society, be it in the form of protecting the environment or bettering the hygiene in the neighbourhood. Small things count,” he advised the students.

Earlier, G. Madhu Kumar, secretary and correspondent of the college, said that 65 per cent of the population in India comprised youth and this demographic dividend should be rightfully used by the young minds.

A. Prasanna Kumar, former Rector of Andhra University and Director of Centre of Policy Studies, in his presentation said that 75 per cent of students in India were unemployable, whereas 75 per cent in China were employable. “It is now up to the students to change the trend, by focussing on employability skills,” he said.

College director Bhaskar Reddy and HoD of Psychology Department, Andhra University, Prof. Raju also spoke.

The one-day seminar was organised by the Discussion Club, a co-curricular body of the college.
