The much-delayed underground drainage work taken up in the core area of the city is expected to be completed by October.
So far 70 per cent of the total work, including sewage treatment plants (STP), was completed. On the STPs 50 per cent of the work was completed. While 13 MLD capacity STP at Mudarsarlova was commissioned, work on the 108 MLD capacity STP at Narava was in progress, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana told reporters here on Monday.
However, with the 108 MLD capacity much beyond the present requirement, execution is limited to 54 MLD. Execution is still facing problems for laying pipeline across the railway track at Venkatapuram requiring permission from the authorities concerned.
The Commissioner asked the engineering officials to prepare the status on the roads yet to be restored after completion of UGD work in various areas.
The underground drainage work in five blocks, covering 31.85 per cent of the city area, has been taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission at a cost of Rs. 244 crore.
Though the work, started in 2008, scheduled for completion by 2010, it is lagging behind.
Parts of the city, including Pandurangapuram and One Town area, have been covered under earlier phases covering 28.15 per cent of the area. Gajuwaka, Malkapuram and the 32 villagers merged with the municipal corporation forming GVMC are not covered under UGD and project reports are being prepared for them.
Water levelsThe present water levels are adequate to maintain supply till the end of August. Presently, about 60 mgd of water is drawn from various reservoirs supplying 48 mgd to meet domestic needs and the rest for industry, according to Mr. Satyanarayana.
Chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy, Chief Medical Officer (Health) M.S.N. Raju, executive engineers K.V.N. Ravi, Pallamraju and Srinivasa Rao were present.
