Two girls drowned in the Yeleru canal after being washed away by the flowing water, when they were taking a dip in the canal on the last day of the auspicious ‘Karteekamasam’ on Sunday.
A group of women, including some girls, of Parawadapalem village went to the canal. While they were bathing, two of them -- T. Srilakshmi (15) and K. Nagamma (13) -- who were studying Class X and Class IX respectively, slipped and drowned in the canal. Two other women, who also slipped, were rescued by some Ayyappa devotees, according to Kasimkota Sub-Inspector T. Vijay Kumar.
The bodies were retrieved by expert swimmers and handed over to their parents after the post-mortem examination. The police registered a case under Section 174 of the Cr. PC.
