The GVMC has ordered immediate demolition of a school building at Kirlampudi Layout. The order was based on a detailed report submitted by IIT-Madras on the safety of the building.

In his order dated August 14, GVMC Commissioner directed that the school management should vacate the premises within 30 days and the owners should demolish the building within 15 days after that. The order was given in compliance with the orders passed by the High Court in a writ petition. Based on the court’s order, the Commissioner with the consent of the parties appointed the Structural Engineering Department of IIT, Madras, to technically and scientifically evaluate the safety of the building and submit a report. After the report was received, the Commissioner held a statutory inquiry under the Municipal Act, heard the parties, permitted cross examination of the expert witness, received written arguments and decided that the building was not safe for habitation.
