Students of Andhra University, who had been agitating against the “discrimination” in payment of scholarship to them and the students studying in institutions outside the campus, staged a protest in front of the Collectorate here on Monday.
A large number of students, many of them girls, marched to the Collectorate and staged a dharna seeking equal payment of scholarship. Leaders of the SC, ST and BC students R. Shanmukha Rao,
Leela Prasad and others said students pursing PG programmes in other institutions were being paid a scholarship of Rs. 1,050 a month while those in the AU were getting less.
The BC students were getting Rs. 682 and SC and ST students Rs. 820.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Collector in-charge and Joint Collector J. Nivas.
