‘AMC Neurosurgery Dept. pride of AP, TS’

VISAKHAPATNAM: The diamond jubilee celebrations of Department of Neurosurgery of Andhra Medical College, the first in united Andhra Pradesh, here on Saturday was an occasion for the participants to recollect its growth in general and the firm foundation to it laid by eminent neurosurgeon Sunkara Balaparameswara Rao as its founder.

“Dr. Balaparameswara Rao has profound technical understanding of the subject, established scientific basis and brought professional . He has documented every case he has treated, worked without CT and MRI scans and though we have computes and IT we are not able to doing the same job”, Vice-Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences T. Raviraju said. He urged the young doctors to follow the example of Dr. Balaparameswara Rao since good documentation and retrieval of information were important in research. He said training is not complete without research in post-graduate and super speciality courses.

Dr. Raviraju advised the doctors to follow ethical practices to avoid all kind of problems and to serve humanity.

More units planned

Director of Medical Education (academic) K. Babji has announced that efforts would be made to establish another unit in the department here and solve the problem of promotion of Assistant Surgeons as Associate Surgeons in all medical colleges in the State. All medical colleges in the State are in the need of more units in their gynaecology departments, he said.

Stimulation and skill labs have been sanctioned by the Central Government to three medical colleges in the State and AMC will have it first. A team from New Delhi would visit the college in a few days for this purpose. The government is also planning to purchase neuroendoscopes for AMC, Rangaraya Medical College and Guntur Medical College. Anatomy departments in all medical colleges must allow PG students of neurosurgery to do dissection of brain, he said.

Superintendent in-charge of King George Hospital G. Arjuna agreed that the department needs more number of beds. Multi-storied buildings must be constructed on the KGH premises to increase the bed strength, for better sanitation and security as the number of patients is on the rise, he said.

Neurosurgery Department of AMC is pride of entire AP and Telangana, said president of AP Neurosciences Association P. Srinivasulu Reddy. Many seniors have worked hard for the success of the department and it is for the juniors to carry forward the legacy, he said.

Principal of Andhra Medical College T. Radha presided. HoD of Neurosurgery and Deputy Superintendent of KGH K. Satyavara Prasad explained about the department since its inception.

Dr. Balaparameswara Rao released a souvenir on the diamond jubilee celebrations of the department.

The department felicitated Dr. Balaparameswara Rao, and former professors I. Dinakar, Bhavaraju Subba Rao, N. Subrahmanyam and K. Vishnu Prasad.
