Here is some good news for women who sweat it out to serve delicious idlis, dosas, vadas and ‘pesarattu’ to family members. Now, you don’t have to visit a provision store to buy rice flour, pulses and other ingredients to make those famous south Indian delicacies.

Just visit any readymade batter outlets in Satyanarayanapuram and buy the desired batter to serve delicious breakfast to dear ones. Cashing in on the requirements of households, many provision stores in and around Satyanarayanapuram are now offering instant batter and making brisk business.

Imagine the laborious work involved in making idli or dosa batter. It can be very demanding physically and women can avoid all that hard work with this instant stuff, says Prakasa Rao, an outlet owner.

More than anybody, it is a relief for working women who line up at these outlets everyday. “My family members ask for variety in breakfast. This is where these outlets come in handy. More importantly, I don’t have to plan much or get worried about going late to office,” says Sujatha Varma, a private employee.

One kg idli and dosa batter is offered for Rs.40 per kg and about 25 idlis and dosas can be made per kg. Likewise, vada and pesarattu batter is sold for Rs.60 per kg. It’s not just idli or dosa, outlets here offer roti and puri dough also. A pack of 10 rotis’ dough is sold for Rs.35.

Though many corporate companies offer instant idli and dosa packs, the concept has not caught up with people for different reasons. But here they can be sure of quality, ingredients used and it is easy on their pockets as well, says K.Srinivas, owner of Tasty Readymade Batter outlet in Satyanarayanapuram.

“We keep grinding the rice flour, pulses to make different batters since 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and offer fresh batter to our customers. We have been into this business since five years and the demand is increasing considerably. On any given day, we end up selling 50 kg idli and 50 kg dosa batter,” smiles K. Jyoti, his wife.
