District Collector Ahmed Babu called upon the parents to get oral polio vaccine administered to their children compulsorily up to the age of five to curb the menace. He was speaking after inaugurating the Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) programme by vaccinating a child at the Urban Health Centre at Kandrika in the city on Sunday.

On the occasion, Mr. Ahmed Babu said the number of children aged below five was estimated at 5.17 lakh in the district out of a total population of 45.25 lakh. PPI was conducted at 2,560 centres in the district and mobile teams were sent to every nook and corner to ensure that no child is left out of the PPI drive. Public health activists would go door-to-door for following up the PPI on February 23 and 24, the Collector added.

District Medical and Health Officer Nagamalleswari and others were present.
