Many such riveting cartoons with vivid messages were on display at Press Club on Sunday in the exhibition organised by Telugu Cartoonists Association in association with “Nadhi” magazine and Pottipalem Ramakotaiah Foundation based at Nellore.

About 80 cartoons drawn by freelance cartoonists from all over Andhra Pradesh were on display at the expo which was inaugurated by Gudivada Revenue Divisional Officer Venkatasubbaiah.

The short-sightedness of politicians, lure of liquor, lack of commonsense, plundering of natural resources, red-tapism and middle-class blues were some of the topics dominated the imagination of the cartoonists,

Hyderabad’s Varchasvi and Nellore’s Mont Christo took the first and second prizes and pocketed Rs. 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. “The third prize of Rs. 3,000 went to Krishna of Vijayawada. We also gave away five consolation prizes and each one got Rs. 1, 000,” said Kalimisri, secretary, TCA.

He said the Telugu Cartoonists Association in Vijayawada which was formed last year was aimed at encouraging the dying art among youngsters. “We are conducting workshops, seminars and competitions for the youngsters regularly to help them master the art.” He said this contest held only for freelancers and not for professionals working in various media houses.

Popular cartoonist from Chennai, Jayadev, along with TCA president T. Venkat Rao, Dr. S.S Murthy and P. Vijayalakshmi gave away the prizes to the winners in the valedictory function.
