At least eight persons including two women belonging to Chilakalapudi area of Machilipatnam town died and 15 injured in a road accident near Pandaripuram in Maharashtra in the early hours of Tuesday.
Krishna District Superintendent of Police G. Vijaya Kumar said he was in touch with Sholapur police and added
necessary arrangements would be made to send the bodies back to Machilipatnam today.
The deceased have been identified by the Karmsla police in Maharastra and Krishna district police as Chalamalasetti Panduranga Rao (60), Mr. Jaganmohana Rao (55), Ms. Lakshmi (45), Pal Lakshmi (55), N. Laxmi Kumari (50), Ms. Seshamani (45), Gadela Venkateswaramma (45), Ms. Reshma (20).
The injured would be sent back to their hometown after being treated, Mr. Vijaya Kumar said. It is believed that a girl below age of 10 was also among the deceased. Forty people left for Shidri on September 29 from Machilipatnam in a bus, operated by Gayatri Travels.
According to Chief Minister Office information, the officials have been directed to make arrangements to receive the deceased at Gannavaram airport. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had expressed his condolence to the families.
