The St. Joseph’s College in the city signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology, Thanjavur, for taking up mutual research programmes.
The MoU was signed at the inaugural of the two-day International Conference on “Frontiers in Life Science” hosted by the Department of Botany of the college on Thursday.
Rev. Fr. Ambrose Centre for Mushroom Culture and Centre for Cryptogamic Studies were inaugurated on the occasion.
Inaugurating the conference, Sandy Loh Hwei San, Professor, School of Bio-Sciences, University of Nottingham, Malaysia, said there was great scope for intensive research in the frontiers of life science.
Plant-based production of recombinant biopharmaceutical proteins were important frontiers of life sciences, Mr. San said.
Rev. S. John Britto, Rector, Rev. S. Sebastian, secretary, and Rev. F. Andrew, principal, St. Joseph’s College, and R. Jeyachandran, organising secretary of the conference, spoke.
