The Left Democratic Front (LDF) organised marches to Central government offices across the State on Thursday to protest against the increase in diesel price, cut in LPG subsidy and the decision to throw open retail trade to foreign direct investment.
The marches formed part of a countrywide agitation by Left parties. In Thiruvananthapuram, LDF activists marched to 11 Central government offices. In the capital city, the march to the RMS office was inaugurated by CPI(M) district secretary Kadakampally Surendran.
PTI adds: Congratulating the people for the “massive response”, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said, “the struggle against these anti-people measures should be intensified in the coming days”. Eight parties - Samajwadi Party, BJD, JD(S), TDP, CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc - had given a call for observing the day through hartal, demonstrations, and picketing across the country.
