In response to The Hindu ’s appeal for citizens to speak up, Vishanz Pinto, a city college lecturer and a resident of Padua High School Road, sent a power-point presentation containing 21 pictures of huge potholes in Sharabathkatte, near Cochin Bakery, near Indian Overseas Bank, CODP, and Jimmy’s Supermarket, Nanthoor Circle and Chef’s Restaurant, and Kadri Circle.
Mr. Pinto says corruption is to blame for potholes, and concreting roads appeared to be the only solution. He said potholes had heightened the tension of driving often causing delay in reaching the destination, besides affecting health and damaging his car.
H. Ramakrishna, a retired executive of BSNL and resident of Katipalla, says potholes on National Highway 66 (Mangalore-Udupi) and uneven footpaths have put citizens in difficulty. He wants authorities to visit the footpath near the Govidadasa College and near Iddya Temple. “It’s been like this for the last 3 years. How do people of Suratkal tolerate this type of footpath and incomplete service road from Nataraj Theatre to Temple premises? Is it not possible to level this so that commuters can walk easily? I am going to put a video on the Facebook,” he says.
