Two construction workers were killed in a road accident near Alangulam on Friday. The police said mason C. Murugan, 45, of Cheranmahadevi, and his friend A. Mariappan, 35, of the same area were going to a temple festival at Sundarapandiapuram near Tenkasi on a bike.

Even as Murugan and Mariappan were crossing Aththiyooththu intersection near Alangulam, a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus, coming to Tirunelveli from Tenkasi, hit the bike injuring the duo.

While Murugan died on the spot, Mariappan, father of two girls aged 13 and 11, breathed his last while being brought to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.

The police have registered a case.
