In a ‘U’ turn, Madurai North MLA and senior AIADMK functionary V.V. Rajan Chellappa has appealed to the cadre to abide by the diktats of the high command.

Speaking at a workers meeting at Tirupparankundram here on Monday, he said that in a few months, elections to local bodies could be announced. “I wish to see many of you here to contest the elections, win and become councillors, chairpersons of panchayat councils and municipalities and Corporations and serve the people,” he said.

Winning and losing were part of the election process and even a big leader like former Chiwef Minister Jayalalithaa had tasted defeat. Hence, under any circumstances, unity and self-discipline among cadre was essential, Mr. Chellappa said and appealed to the cadre to understand their responsibilities and act as per the wishes of the high command.

In a press meet only two days ago, the MLA had suggested that AIADMK needed a a charismatic leader and not dual leadership.
