A large number of supporters of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, including women, observed fast in many places across southern districts on Wednesday, demanding a CBI probe into the “mysterious” death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

They maintained that the people had “doubts” in the death of “Amma” and that the party cadre would not rest until justice was delivered.

In Madurai, MP R. Gopalakrishnan, and MLAs S.S. Saravanan and Manickam participated in the fast, in which party cadre joined in large numbers.

Former Minister Natham R. Viswanathan participated in the fast in Dindigul.

He said, “When the election draws to a close, there would be a number of changes,”

In Theni district, there were more women than men at the fast venue.

In Ramanathapuram, the fast, led by former AIADMK district secretary Dharmar, received good response as a large number of party volunteers, including women, joined and expressed their support to Mr. Panneerselvam.

The fast was led by Chinnaiah Ambalam, former district party vice-chairman, and M. Gunasekaran in Sivaganga.

Over 5,000 supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam participated in the fast organised near Vaeinthankulam new bus stand in Tirunelveli.

Speakers at the protest venue came down heavily on those who were “spreading wrong information” about the progress in the health of Jayalalithaa when she was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.

They charged that “a group of people” surrounding an ailing Jayalalithaa prevented her from getting proper medical assistance.

Over 5,000 people participated in the fast organised near Chidambara Nagar bus stop in Thoothukudi.

Agitation to go on

In the fast observed by cadre in front of Anna stadium in Nagercoil, speakers said AIADMK cadre would continue their agitation till an inquiry was ordered.
