Members of the All India Students Association (AISA) and Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) staged a demonstration near the District Collectorate premises demanding the removal of Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan.

“A convenor committee should be appointed and it should handle the administration and functioning of the University in a fair manner. A CBI probe should also be initiated into the appointments, administration and auditing carried out during the tenure of the present Vice-Chancellor,” said C. Pandiarajan, an AISA member.

The members also alleged that no announcement had been made with regard to the UGC ‘Non-Net Fellowship’ scheme which was introduced in the university for the benefit of the students and research scholars.

“The disbursal of research assistance has been very irregular and it needs to be given to the scholars on a monthly basis,” the members said.

Claim

They also claimed that the mess in the men’s hostel for research scholars on the University premises had been shut down.

“The administration has stated lack of funds to keep it functioning and the scholars have been put to hardship,” they also alleged.
