For scores of police personnel, especially women, who are made to stand in the open and in trouble-torn areas for several hours after they are deployed on picketing and bandobust duties, the specially designed vehicles with toilet facilities have come as a great relief.

Two specially designed vehicles with toilet and dress changing facilities, allotted for the district by the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), reached here on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan, who received the vehicles, said each vehicle had four toilets and two wash basins and the vehicles would be extremely useful to the police personnel who were deployed on bandobust duties.

Each vehicle had a 1,000 litre capacity overhead tank and was fitted with an 800-litre septic tank connected to the toilets and a 200-litre sewage tank connected to the wash basins.

The vehicle also had a room for dress changing with lighting facilities, he said.

The vehicles would be moved whenever police were deployed on bandobust or for security during temple and other festivals, the SP said, and wanted the police personnel to maintain the vehicles cleanly.

Police personnel who were deployed on security duty often found it difficult to answer the call of nature in the absence of public convenience.

Women police personnel faced tough time and they used the toilets of local residents when they had to spend several hours on security duty.

The new vehicles with toilet facilities would definitely be a great relief for them.
