The ball is now in the court of the Town Planning Standing Committee of the Kochi Corporation on the laser show project proposed by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) at Rajendra Maidan.
A meeting of the heads of the authority and the corporation held on Tuesday entrusted the committee with the task of inspecting the site of the project and assessing related documents. The report of the committee would have to be placed before the corporation council too, said a civic administrator.
Besides Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany and GCDA chairman N. Venugopal, K.J. Sohan, chairman of Town Planning Standing Committee, K.J. Jacob and K.N. Sunilkumar, the CPI (M) leaders in the council, attended the meeting.
ProtestsThe GCDA’s project had invited resistance with the CPI(M) and other organisations opposing it, stating that the authority was encroaching upon open spaces in the city. It had also led to a heated debate in the Corporation Council.
The local body would take a final stand on the project after obtaining the report of the Town Planning Standing Committee, said Mr. Chammany.
