The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC), the apex body of the Catholic hierarchy in the State, has said it is obvious that the State government’s liquor policy is not aimed at people’s welfare and demanded that the government come out with an action plan to get the State rid of alcoholic drinks over the next 10 years. The bishops demanded that the government should prove its sincerity in this regard. The demand was raised in a circular read out in Catholic churches during the Sunday Mass. The day was observed as anti-liquor Sunday by the Catholic church. The bishops alleged the government had failed to present the goal of achieving a liquor-free State over 10 years in a meaningful manner.
The circular, sent out by Bishop Remigius Inchinaniyil, chairman of KCBC’s anti-liquor committee, said unless the government came out with a blueprint for action in this regard, its moves could be viewed only with suspicion.said.
