The State Haj Committee members on Friday held discussions with the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) officials about the measures to be taken in the wake of the decision to shift the Haj flight services and camp to the Cochin airport.
The committee members inspected the land owned by the CIAL adjacent to the airport. The airport company promised all cooperation in setting up the camp and associated facilities at a suitable site.
The CIAL expects to host around 6,500 pilgrims in connection with the Haj pilgrimage scheduled to begin on September 2. CIAL executive director A.M. Shabeer has been entrusted with coordinating the activities associated with the airport.
The decision to make Cochin airport the base for this year’s Haj was taken in view of the repairs at the Karipur airport.
