Death toll rises to 11 in Fort Kochi boat tragedy

Taking the death toll in Fort Kochi boat tragedy to 11, a 42-year old woman who had been undergoing treatment a private hospital in Kochi, died here on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Beevi, a native of Kunnumpuram in Fort Kochi. She was admitted in hospital in critical condition after diesel contaminated water entered her body damaging internal organs and she succumbed to injuries by Tuesday morning.

The dead body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem. It was on August 26 that MV Bharat, the ferry boat plying in the Vypeen – Fort Kochi sector met with an accident when a speeding fishing craft hit it. There were about 40 passengers on the ill-fated boat, said to be three decades old.
