Travel agent, businessman done to death

October 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A travel agent was stabbed to death by unknown assailants at Chandrayangutta in old city late on Sunday night.

Syed Qutbuddin (59) of Malakpet along with his brother-in-law Mohammed Abdul Rasheed, nephew Mujeeb, and two real-estate brokers - Amjad and Hasanuddin - went to Aurora college road in Bandlaguda at around 9 p.m. to see a property.

Qutbuddin was planning to purchase a plot around Bandlaguda area and visited a few locations along with some brokers earlier.

“While the group was leaving the place, some persons came on two motorcycles and attacked Qutbuddin. Seeing this, all of them, except the victim fled from the place. A little later when they returned, they found Qutbuddin lying in a pool of blood,” Inspector Chandrayangutta, K. Rama Rao said.

Qutbuddin had two wives and he was staying with his second wife, Farheen, at Hafeezbabanagar, whom he married four years ago.

“Four years ago Farheeb divorced her first husband, Khaiser, a property offender, and married Qutbuddin. Since then, Khaiser bore a grudge against him and threatened him,” the Inspector added. Soon after the incident, a police team raided the house of Khaiser but their efforts proved futile. Two special teams have been formed to nab the assailants.

The police are also probing the role of a few of Qutbuddin’s relatives with whom he had property disputes.

In a separate case, some unknown assailants murdered a businessman, Mohd Mujtaba Ali (40) of Shakkergunj in Shahalibanda of old city at Shamshabad on Sunday evening. Mujtaba along with his friend Shehbaz went to Kaaman Cheruvu under RGI Airport police station area on Sunday afternoon.

“The assailants came to the place and stabbed Mujtaba. Later, they pushed him into the tank and fled,” T. Sudhakar, Inspector RGI Airport, said.

The police said that Mujtaba was having disputes with his step-brothers - Shahker and Khizar - over a function hall property at Shahalibanda. They believe that the murder could be a result of the dispute. The police reportedly took a few persons into custody on Monday evening.
