Mayor submits proposals worth Rs. 3,736 cr. to finance panel

Mayor Majid Hussain on Friday submitted proposals worth Rs.3,736 crore to the 14 Finance Commission on behalf of the corporation, for development of the city between 2015-16 and 2019-20.

The proposals, revised from the earlier Rs.2,736 crore, freshly included two more additions, public safety measures and comprehensive development of old city, each for Rs.500 crore.

Proposals galore

Other major works proposed included construction of flyovers, road-over & road-under bridges, and elevated corridors (Rs.825 crore), Musi Revitalisation Project (Rs.500 crore), Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management (Rs.485 crore), Empowerment, Livelihood Promotion, Disabled Welfare (Vikasam), Senior Citizen Welfare (Rs.341 crore), major and link roads (Rs.150 crore), road infrastructure and intelligent transport (Rs.140 crore), and remodelling or construction of storm water drains (Rs.119 crore).

The letter with the proposals noted that GHMC was not allotted any funds under the 11 and 12 Finance Commissions, and only received Rs.115.3 crore out of the total of Rs.505.95 crore allotted by the 13 Finance Commission.

In a separate letter to the Chairman of the Commission, Mr.Hussain requested sanction of Rs.15,251 crore, for meeting capital and recurring expenditure for roads, urban transportation services, traffic support infrastructure and street lighting.

Mayor inspects CPP

A team from GHMC headed by the Mayor inspected the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) on Saturday, and expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the project.

Mr.Hussain noted that many people who had been evicted had taken compensation, and yet constructed buildings at the same sites. A review meeting would be conducted on Monday for preparation of an action plan to take up demolitions, remove encroachments on the CPP site, he said.

The team included MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Commissioner Somesh Kumar and other leaders and senior officials.
