The anti-pilferage drive by the APCPDCL in the Old City has met with stiff resistance.
The Majlis party has jumped into the scene here following raids conducted by the vigilance wing of the APCPDCL and its legislators have requested the officials to stop the raids for the next few months so that the people could set right the power meters.
The vigilance wing of the APCPDCL on Tuesday and Wednesday conducted raids on houses in Maisaram, Omer Colony and Jamal Kunta in Chandrayangutta.
The officials booked 25 cases of direct tapping and tampering of electricity meters. To avoid the raids by anti-pilferage team, the shopkeepers and house owners locked up their premises and fled.
With the officials being relentless in their raids, MIM legislators Ahmed Pasha Quadri and Mouzam Khan along with party corporators met the APCPDCL officials and asked them to stop the inspections.
“The legislators asked us to stop the raids and assured us that the people would clear the arrears in due time,” said Assistant Divisonal Engineer, Falaknuma G. Nageshwar Rao.
When contacted, Mr. Quadri said that they had requested the APCPDCL officials to give some time to people to clear their pending electricity arrears. He, however, did not comment on the charge that there was widespread pilferage in the area. “We incur heavy losses as there is 90 per cent power theft in these parts,” officials remarked.
