A police driver attached to Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha’s office, was caught driving the car in drunken condition on Saturday night.
Armed with latest breath analysers, traffic police were conducting a drive against drink-driving at several places, including Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, during the weekend. Policemen accosted a car bearing a VIP number and found that the driver had blood alcohol level above the permissible limit.
The breath analyser recorded a reading of about 70 mg per 100 ml blood as against the stipulated 30 mg limit.
The police seized the vehicle and registered a case under section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The driver will have to attend a counselling session at Traffic Training Institute and later face the charges in a city court. “The constable will have to face a departmental enquiry, too,” a police official said.
A total of 80 drink-driving cases have been booked by the police in Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas during the two-day weekend drive against drink-driving conducted on Friday and Saturday.
