Unveiling one mobile app after another for public and internal usage, Hyderabad police finally have an integrated one for their internal use. HYDCOP, the new mobile phone-based app was formally released by Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma on Monday at the Hyderabad commissionerate office.
Stating that it was time to leapfrog forward, Mr. Sharma said that field-level policemen will receive real-time intelligence feeds through the new app. He said the app will be a game changer, transforming Hyderabad police into smart cops.
Incident Management, one of the options in the app, helps policemen who reach the spot after an incident send ‘notifications’ (alerts) to all near-by police officers. Details of the incident, be it in the form of photos, videos, or voice notes, can be sent to the officers by uploading them.
Third Eye, which policemen had been using for a long time now, will be useful to identify suspects in an offence by verifying vehicle registration or mobile phone number.
All data like Aadhaar card, elector’s photo identity card and PAN cards would be linked to this so that verification can be done on the spot.
Point Book sends a pop-up of near-by point books (which are geo-tagged) when the police patrol party or beat constables go a specific point. The police Station House Officer can verify if the constable concerned have checked a particular point book.
Jail Release Management link will give info on location of ‘offenders’. By using the offender’s name, the policemen can learn if the person is inside prison or has been released. CAMS gives details of all the nearby CCTV projects and cameras installed to the policemen at the field level.
“In future, new links like ‘court constables’ will be added so that police officers can learn about the list of cases in courts and their status using mobile phones,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said.
