With an aim to generate metered bills and reduce ‘Non Revenue Water’, the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has, through a press release on Friday, announced that all domestic consumers who fix meter for water consumption between August 1 and September 30 will be given 5 per cent discount on water bill per month, provided the meter is in working condition for 12 continuous months.
The decision was taken during a review of the recommendations made by focus groups. MD M. Dana Kishore had constituted for organisational improvement.
The voluntary disclosure scheme (VDS) initiated for one month from August 1 as per the recommendations, envisages incentive of Rs.200 to lineman for each connection regularised under BPL (below poverty line) category. Illegal connections of BPL households regularised under the VDS will not be levied with penalty, and need to pay only nominal connection charges of Re.1.
The process for application also has been simplified for instant sanction of 15 mm size connections within 48 hours, after the application is received by the manager (engineering), the note said. Even where the pipe size is beyond 15 mm, the issue of sanction would be done within two days. However, for connections between 15 mm and 20mm size, the applications have to be submitted to the DGM (engineering), and for sizes between 20 mm and 25 mm, they have to be submitted to GM (engineering).
Double charges
If the information about a non-VDS connection is given by a third party informant, double the normal connection charges will be levied, and 25 per cent of the amount will be given as incentive to the informant, the note said.
