Two cousins have been arrested at Safdarjung Enclave in South Delhi for allegedly raping a Class XI girl at least four times during the past two years.
The traumatised victim had attempted to end her life on two occasions on being sexually abused by the accused and harassed by their friends with whom the two had shared her phone number.
According to the complaint lodged on December 31, the 17-year-old victim came in contact with one of the accused through a social networking website in 2011. They became friends after which the young man started pestering her to meet in person. It is learnt that the accused, an HR executive, first sexually abused the girl the same year.
In July last year, he took her to a South Delhi flat on the pretext of attending a party and then raped her. The last time, she was raped by the cousin of the accused in September last year. The second accused works as a computer engineer with an IT firm.
It is alleged that the two accused had also circulated the victim’s phone number among their friends. They would allegedly call her, which added to her woes and she went into depression. The continued exploitation and harassment also adversely affected the studies of an otherwise brilliant student.
While the police remained tight-lipped, it is learnt that the victim attempted to commit suicide first in October and then in November. She was also admitted to a hospital for sometime. After she narrated the incidents to her parents, they approached the police and got a case registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Based on the findings, including the medical report of the girl, the police arrested the two accused and produced them before a city court that has sent them to judicial custody.
