Last date for DDA housing scheme extended to October 15

The prospective applicants of the DDA housing scheme 2014 will now be able to apply for the scheme till October 15.

Just a day before the mega housing scheme was to close, the land agency on Wednesday extended the date of form submission to October 15. Now people can submit the forms in the 13 empanelled banks and their designated branches till 5 p.m. on October 15. Meanwhile, DDA also announced November 5 as the tentative date for draw of lots.

A committee headed by a retired high court judge and two IT professionals — one from IIT, Delhi and one from government’s National Informatics Centre — will be supervising the draw.

Earlier, the last date of form submission was October 9. However, owing to bank holidays on various religious occasions in the first week of October, the DDA was mulling extending the date of form submission. The land agency had earlier said it would be taking a decision on extending the time near the closing of the scheme.

It is to be noted that while the agency has sold over 16 lakh forms it has only received about 90,000 applications despite going all out by uploading a video on how to fill a form on its website. The low number of forms received does not go well with the initial response the scheme had generated leading to the DDA website crashing within minutes after the launch of the scheme on September 1. The agency even had to get more forms printed and the banks had fallen short of forms.

The housing scheme is DDA’s biggest scheme till date with 25,034 flats on offer in different categories. Of these, 22, 627 flats are one bedroom flats. Most of the flats are from old inventory which includes surrendered flats. Only 512 MIG flats are included in the newly constructed flats.

“Despite the form being simple and there being no need for bulky documents to be annexed with it, such less applications have been received because there are very few number of flats in the Middle Income Group category. Also, there has been news about flats in Rohini being constructed on disputed land, which might have made people apprehensive,” said a DDA official.

He added that people might also be concerned about flats in Dwarka since the public feels there is major water crisis in the area.
