The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to respond to a plea by former Haryana Chief Minister O.P. Chautala seeking extension of his three-week interim bail by another four weeks for performing the post-cremation rites of his younger brother.
Admitted in the ICUMr. Chautala is at present admitted in the ICU of a private hospital in Gurgaon.
Mr. Chautala along with his son Ajay Chautala is serving 10 years’ imprisonment in the primary teacher’s selection scam case in Haryana in 1999.
The Court had earlier this month granted three weeks’ interim bail to attend the last rites of his brother Pratap Singh.
‘File a reply by June 23’The Court asked the investigating agency to file a reply to the fresh petition by June 23, the next date of hearing.
Counsel for the probe agency opposed Mr. Chautala’s plea arguing that his health conditions should be checked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Sentenced to ten years’ imprisonmentThe trial court had last year sentenced the father-son duo to ten years’ imprisonment each. Fifty-three other accused were also held guilty and sentenced by the trial court in the case.
