A bout of unexpected showers drenched the capital today, taking people by surprise and slightly bringing down the temperature on a winter morning.

The capital received a good 18.0 mm of rainfall which in several parts of the city extended to almost an hour.

Weather department officials said a low pressure area that developed over the city was responsible to the rainfall.

Many people on their way to work were drenched by the pre-winter showers and were seen taking shelter underneath bus stops and Metro stations.

The temperature that was 19 degree Celsius at 8.30 in the morning came down to 18 degree Celsius at 11.30 after the rains.
