With Delhi expected to get its largest solar power plant soon, the Players’ Building will become the first State secretariat in the country to run completely on renewable energy.
The Delhi government, in association with the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is setting up a 3-MW ground-based solar power plant at the defunct Indraprastha power station.
“To achieve the goal of making the national Capital a solar city, we have decided to start the work from the Delhi Secretariat. This solar power plant will be a showcase plant that will supply power directly to the Delhi Secretariat for the next 25 years,” said a government official. Work on the project has already been started and it is slated to be completed by the end of this year.
Besides making the Secretariat a green building, the shift to solar power is also expected to bring down the electricity bills of Delhi Secretariat considerably.
Officials said that the plant will utilise latest technology, including the tracker mechanism, which will track the movement of the sun for maximum output.
“The Delhi government is also taking steps to convert the Delhi Secretariat into the most energy-efficient building by adopting various energy-efficient measures,” the official added.
