: The Delhi Police have arrested a man who allegedly impersonated as an Income Tax official and blackmailed a businessman in north-west Delhi. Officers said accused Nitesh Jha tried to take advantage of the current demonetisation woes to intimidate the victim and cheat him.
‘Victim threatened’
“He continuously called the victim and threatened to raid his office and house if his demands were not met. Initially, the businessman thought a genuine tax official was calling him, but he later decided to approach the police,” said a police officer.
Subsequently, a case was registered at the Jahangirpuri police station
Phone numbers traced
When the police traced the numbers from where Nitesh called, they realised he was an imposter.
“He believed nobody would suspect him as Income Tax personnel were conducting raids at various business houses,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Milind Dumbre.
