Eager to take across the issue of corruption to the masses after its attempts at securing a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe in Parliament into the 2G spectrum allocation failed, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday announced its plans to organise a ``massive rally’’ at Ramlila Grounds here on Wednesday.
The ``Mahasangram Rally’’, as the event has been christened, would see the BJP top brass coming together to once again raise the issue before the people. The party is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of the rally and all the 20,000 workers of various block and district committees in Delhi have been mobilised to gather men and material.
Addressing a press conference at the Delhi BJP headquarters, BJP national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and party unit chief Vijender Gupta asked why Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was wary of a JPC probe. Both the leaders also demanded to know why was a JPC probe not being allowed if the Government had nothing to hide.
Mr. Naqvi said India has become a mature democratic country and after being ruled by the Congress for much of the 63 years since Independence, the people have finally seen its ``anti-people face’’.
Mr. Gupta said the Delhi BJP has been repeatedly raising the issue of corruption and there was massive public outcry on the subject. ``The whole of Delhi now does not want the Congress-led Governments in Delhi and the Centre to continue even for a day. The people of Delhi after assembling at Ramlila Maidan will tell the `anti-people, corrupt Congress’ that its days were numbered,’’ he said.
