Members of the Rotary, Rotaract and Inner Wheel Clubs of Coimbatore along with the Rapid Action Force personnel and city residents organised a cleaning drive at Sungam Circle here on Sunday as part of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ (Clean India) campaign.
Nearly two km of Ukkadam By-Pass Road was cleaned, starting from the Sungam Circle. The campaign went on for three hours.
A number of residents of the Sungam neighbourhood also joined.
In a statement issued here, Rotary convenor and director (R.I. Priorities) A.V. Pathy said that the Swachh Bharat campaign was a priority for Rotary.
Project coordinator B.A. Joseph said that they also planned to educate the youth in the community by involving them in such programmes.
Further, the Rotary also planned to take up more community service activities of similar nature.
“We plan to organise ‘Clean Town’ projects in several areas of Coimbatore. It will also seek to create awareness among the populace. The next programme is at Vadavalli during January,” he added.
To mark ChristmasThe Bethel City Cathedral also organised a clean India campaign on Sunday to mark Christmas. Members of the Cathedral undertook cleaning activities at Aamelu Nagar and B.K.R. Nagar.
