Minister for Local Administration S.P. Velumani has instructed the Coimbatore Corporation officials to repair rain-damaged roads at the earliest.
After inspecting Ukkadam Bypass Road, Ukkadam Big Tank, Singanallur PWD canal, Textool Bridge on Sathyamangalam Road, Kavundampalayam, Jeeva Nagar and a few other areas, he said that the Corporation engineers should take steps to rebuild the Ukkadam Bypass Road at the earliest.
While rebuilding the road, the engineers must ensure that they used quality materials, increased the life of the road and built it in such a way that it did not get damaged in the next rain. They must also provide drainage facility in the area.
While inspecting the Big Tank, he instructed the Public Works Department officials to ensure that the inlet channel was free of blocks and surplus water from tank's upstream reached the water body. He later saw the renovation work being carried out in the Raja Vaikal.
At the Kurichi Tank he discussed with officials the ways to harvest as much rainwater as possible, a press release said. Earlier, at the Coimbatore Corporation, he conducted a detailed review meeting with civic body and Revenue Department officials on rain related damages in the district and the relief measures taken.
