The Coimbatore City Police on Friday arrested a person on the charges of suspected snooping of Indu Makkal Katchi functionary in a bid to unleash an attack on him. City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan said that six persons were already arrested in connection with the plot a few weeks ago.
“On Friday the police arrested A. Kutti Gulma alias Shahul Hameed (27) of Vijayapuri near Kudankulam in Tirunelveli District who was hiding,” the Police Commissioner told The Hindu here on Saturday.
The Selvapuram police said that the accused was arrested near the Teachers Colony bus stop near Thudiyalur. According to the police, inquiries of Shahul Hameed before he was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison on Friday night revealed that he was assigned the role of snooping Hindu outfit leaders.
Shahul Hameed kept Kajah Moideen and Abu Bai informed.
The two are the prime accused in the murder of Hindu Munnani (HM) leader K.P. Suresh Kumar in Chennai on June 18.
He was booked under sections 120(b) (criminal conspiracy), 505 (ii) (for statement conducing to public mischief) and 153 (a) (for promoting enmity between different communal groups) of the IPC.
